Franchise Notes: Fundación Euskadi Cycling Team To Disband In August

Continental cycling team Fundación Euskadi Manager Miguel Madariaga confirmed the team "will disappear following the Vuelta a Burgos" race on Aug. 17. The 21-year-old team "lacks the economic capacity to complete the season." No sponsor "has emerged to save the club" and Madariaga said, "The cyclists have been notified: when time is up on the Burgos race, this is over" (AS, 7/22). ... Bradford Bulls' relegation from the Super League was confirmed on Monday night after they "dropped their legal challenge to the points deduction" imposed by the Rugby Football League in February. The Bulls, who were "docked six points for going into administration for the second time in two years," lost an appeal against the six-point deduction on June 11. Bradford Chair Marc Green, however, announced a fortnight later the decision to "go to the High Court in a bid to have the ruling overturned" (LONDON TIMES, 7/22).
