Guinness Replaces RaboDirect As Title Sponsor Of PRO12 Rugby

Guinness is "the new sponsor of the rugby PRO12," according to the IRISH EXAMINER. The brand takes over sponsorship of the competition from RaboDirect, which "sponsored the competition for the past three seasons." PRO12 CEO John Feehan said, “We are delighted that Guinness, an international brand with a strong pedigree in rugby, will be our title sponsor and we are looking forward to working with Guinness in actively developing the profile and stature of our competition which boasts some of the biggest names in world rugby.” The fixture list "was also released, with the opening round of games taking place on the first weekend of September" (IRISH EXAMINER, 7/10). In Belfast, Michael Sadlier reported the rebranding is "just what the PRO12 needs to bring new drive and presence." There is "likely to be criticism over a drinks brand again being closely associated with sport but for Dublin-based league organisers Celtic Rugby the key point is they have managed to secure a high profile sponsor with such a notable track record." The PRO12 "can only benefit from the huge experience Guinness have already banked" through Ireland's autumn int'ls, and "the knowledge gained from their former sponsorship of the English Premiership" (BELFAST TELEGRAPH, 7/9).
