German Handball Team Receives Wild Card For 2015 World Championship In Qatar

The German national handball team "has received a wild card for the 2015 world championship in Qatar," according to the SID. The Int'l Handball Federation "confirmed the decision at a meeting in Zagreb, Croatia." The German team, which failed to qualify for the event, "receives the vacant Oceania spot." The reason is that Oceania "currently does not have an IHF recognized governing body." Therefore, the IHF "decided to give the vacant spot to the highest finishing team of the 2013 world championship that failed to qualify for Qatar." The German team "finished fifth in '13" (SID, 7/8).
