Sponsors Flock To Australian Tennis Player Nick Kyrgios After Wimbledon Success

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios "has something very marketable, and the commercial offers are piling in," according to Neil Harman of the LONDON TIMES. Racket manufacturer Yonex "is ready to make Kyrgios its highest-paid athlete." Yonex has Lleyton Hewitt and Stanislas Wawrinka "among its greatest assets in the men’s game." Nike also "wants to improve its deal with the 19-year-old." Kyrgios is on a roll after defeating Rafael Nadal in four sets on Tuesday at Wimbledon to advance to the quarterfinals. Kyrgios "is managed by British-based John Morris, of Global Tennis Connections, a case of a boutique company recognising young talent and taking a punt on him, making Morris a popular man at SW19." Morris: "People are knocking on the door and commercially this Wimbledon has been great for Nick. Yonex have offered five times what the current deal is, and in those terms, it has gone through the roof. The same with Nike. There are other companies looking to come to the table" (LONDON TIMES, 7/1). NEWS CORP AUSTRALIA's Leo Schlink reported with a guaranteed prizemoney check of almost A$220,000 ($209,000), Krygios' "unforgettable" Wimbledon debut is likely to trigger million-dollar benefits. Industry insiders claim that "the upgraded Yonex deal would place Kyrgios above world No.3 Wawrinka" (NEWS CORP AUSTRALIA, 7/1).
