More Than 17 Million Watch Netherlands' 2-1 Win Over Mexico On ARD

German public broadcaster ARD "attracted more than 17 million to its broadcast of the World Cup match between the Netherlands and Mexico on Sunday," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTENMETER. A total of 17.22 million viewers tuned in to watch the game starting at 6pm. The number translated into a market share of 57.7%. In the target demographic 14-49, the Netherlands' 2-1 win was watched by 6.74 million viewers and had a 58% share. Sunday's matchup was the highest-rated World Cup match on German TV that did not feature the German national team. Prior to the game broadcast, ZDF's pregame coverage attracted more than 7 million viewers. The day's second round of 16 matchup between Greece and Costa Rica attracted 9.84 million viewers. Costa Rica's 5-3 win on penalties had a market share of 45.3%. In the target demographic, the match obtained a 44.8% share (QUOTENMETER, 6/30).
