A federal judge has upheld a Swiss court’s $1.1M judgment against former NHL Detroit Red Wings player KEVIN MILLER "whose hit from behind in a Switzerland league ended the career of another player." Miller injured ANDREW MCKIM, a Canadian, during a 2000 championship game (GRAND RAPIDS PRESS, 6/7). ... Rugby League's NICK POLITIS has been "recognised with Queen's Birthday honours." Politis has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia along with "close friend and confidant" PHIL GOULD. Channel Nine commentary veteran RAY WARREN also received the Medal of the Order of Australia -- all three for services to rugby league (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/9). ... Former ManU Manager ALEX FERGUSON sold 140 lots from The Sir Alex Ferguson CBE Collection made £393,818 ($660,000) at a fine wine auction in London. A magnum of Domaine de la romanee-Conti 2022 Burgundy alone fetched £16,450 ($27,600). It "was the second of three auctions of wine from Sir Alex's collection, following one in Hong Kong last month" (AP, 6/6). ... The personal assistant who exposed Premier League CEO RICHARD SCUDAMORE's "sleazy emails" in the Sunday Mirror is suing the Premier League, after claiming it is “institutionally sexist.” RANI ABRAHAM, 41, is "alleging harassment and sex ­discrimination." In legal papers Abraham called the Premier League an “institutionally sexist old boys’ club” and said the FA was “not fit for purpose” (London DAILY MIRROR, 6/7).
