Spanish Basketball League (ACB) side Gipuzkoa coach SITO ALONSO on Monday announced that he is leaving the club after three seasons. Alonso said, "I believe that the cycle has ended athletically. I called (club President) ÁLVARO BILBAO on Saturday to communicate this" (AS, 6/2). ... British Triathlon has appointed JACK BUCKNER as its new CEO. Buckner is a Loughborough University graduate who competed in the 5,000m at the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Games. Buckner will take up his position at British Triathlon on Aug. 11 (British Triathlon). ... ALEXANDER ZHUKOV "has been reappointed president of the Russian Olympic Committee." Zhukov, a key ally of Russian President VLADIMIR PUTIN, who was first elected ROC president in '10, "was the only candidate and consequently received 232 votes in favour, with just one against." The 57-year-old previously served as deputy PM of Russia from '04-11 and "has extensive experience in sports administration," including six years as president of the Russian Chess Federation between '03-09 (INSIDE THE GAMES, 5/30).
