Real Madrid's Champions League Win Watched By 4.9 Million On ITV

Real Madrid's victory over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday "was watched by an average audience of 4.9 million on ITV, down on the audiences of previous finals that benefited from involving an English side," according to John Reynolds of the London GUARDIAN. The match "was shown on ITV1 between 7pm and 11pm," over-running its scheduled finish time of 10:15pm as the game was won by Real after extra time. The live match coverage averaged 4.9 million viewers on ITV, "which equated to a 24.6% audience share." The match was also shown live on Sky Sports 1 from 6pm to 10:30pm, "pulling in 1.18 million viewers." ITV could not match the heights of the '12 final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich, which averaged 8.2 million viewers, or the '11 final "in which an average audience of 7.9 million watched Barcelona beat Manchester United" (GUARDIAN, 5/27).
