League Notes: Transtasman Netball League Looks To Move To Conference System

The transtasman netball league "will follow in the footsteps of Super Rugby and move to a conference system next year if a proposed structural change is approved." League bosses "are in the final stages of developing a proposal to change the competition structure for 2015, which will include the introduction of New Zealand and Australian conferences and increasing the finals series to six teams" (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 5/14). ... In order to "boost some prominent disciplines which are yet to start a league of their own," the Indian Sports Ministry "has approved an annual National prize money tournament for archery, boxing and wrestling from this year." The country's top eight athletes in each discipline "will be eligible to participate in the competition, which will be funded by the National Sports Development Fund" (THE HINDU, 5/14). ... Cricket Association of Bihar CEO Aditya Verma asked Board of Control for Cricket in India interim President Sunil Gavaskar "to clarify whether N. Srinivasan attended" an Indian Premier League Governing Council despite a Supreme Court order "restraining him from participating in any Board activity" (PTI, 5/14). ... The Australian Rugby Union "issued a plea for fans to think of innovative, experimental laws that could be incorporated into the organisation's new domestic competition." A social media campaign starts on Monday and then a panel "will devise a shortlist that will be voted on by the public" (FAIRFAX MEDIA, 5/14).
