German Pay-TV Channel Sport1 US Acquires NHL Broadcast Rights Starting This Fall

German pay-TV channel Sport1 US "has acquired NHL broadcast rights starting with the '14-15 season," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. Sport1 US "will show a minimum of 60 live games per year." The contract "will run for at least two years." Sport1 US "acquired platform-neutral media rights for Germany, Austria and Switzerland." Sport1 Managing Dir Olaf Schröder said, "With the NHL starting this fall, we will also have the fourth big North American sports league in our program -- together with the NFL, NBA and MLB. We've targeted the world's best hockey league for a while. ... Our focus will be especially on the numerous German, Austrian and Swiss players and their respective clubs in the U.S. and Canada" (DWDL, 5/6).
