Messi's Final Resolution With Spanish Tax Authorities Could Cost Him More Than €35M

Inspectors from the Spanish tax authorities "will end up achieving an important victory in fundraising by the end of the Lionel Messi case," according to Manel Pérez of LA VANGUARDIA. For Messi, the "final cost of his case with the Spanish tax authorities, the definitive peace, will end up costing an impressive sum," which could reach €41M ($57M) by the conclusion of the "judicial process and the investigation in which he has been immersed for a year." This figure includes the €10M he paid "after being charged last May." The possible sanction the "court might impose could elevate this initial by sum by several million" -- by as much as €4M-€6M -- and the €25M (€20M net) that Messi "contributed as a guarantee, which was not the object of the investigation." The "sum of these payments" could total around €35M for the last six fiscal years, not including '13 (LA VANGUARDIA, 5/4).
