BeIN Sports Canada Nets Broadcast Deal With National Basketball League
BeIN Sports Canada "signed a national broadcast television deal" with the National Basketball League of Canada, according to CARTT. The three-year deal will include live NBL Canada games in HD on Thursday and Saturday nights starting with the '14-15 season, "plus additional coverage for playoffs and special events like the All Star Weekend." The NBLC "is Canada's only professional domestic basketball league." There "are currently nine teams within two divisions: Central and Atlantic" (CARTT, 4/25). The CHRONICLE HERALD's Chris Cochrane wrote a new deal between the NBLC and beIN Sports Canada "is much-needed good news for the fledgling minor pro basketball operation." The league is hoping the partnership, "which will see games broadcast two nights a week via carriers such as Bell TV, Eastlink and Rogers, will be the vehicle the NBL needs to increase exposure." League Commissioner Paul Riley will not reveal details of the TV deal but did concede “this is a revenue-generating deal for us" (CHRONICLE HERALD, 4/25).
