Ethiopia's national football team named Portugal’s MARIANO BARRETO as coach. Barreto, a former Ghana coach and assistant manager of Dynamo Moscow, was given the job after the Ethiopian Football Federation "failed to reach an agreement with first choice" GORAN STEVANOVIC of Serbia. Barreto signed a two-year deal on Tuesday on a salary of $18,000 a month (REUTERS, 4/23). ... League One side Bristol City announced that JOHN PELLING "will become their new chief executive from June 1." Pelling "will also sit on the board of directors" with current CEO DOUG HARMAN remaining as director. Pelling spent 14 years as Nottingham Forest's finance director (SKY SPORTS, 4/24). ... Retired journalist and broadcaster JEFF RANDALL "has been appointed by the Jockey Club to the board of Sandown Park racecourse." The former presenter of "Jeff Randall Live" on Sky News, Editor-at-Large of the London Telegraph, Business Editor of the BBC and Sports Editor of the Sunday Times, Randall "is a lifelong racing fan and regular racegoer." He "takes up his new role at Sandown Park at this weekend’s climax to the Jumps season, the bet365 Jumps Finale fixture" (SKY SPORTS, 4/24).
