New 30-Team Format Of Argentine Football Season Expected To Be Approved On Tuesday

The Argentine FA's "new football championship" will feature 30 participating teams and run from Feb.-Dec. '15, according to LOS ANDES. The 30 teams will include 20 from the Argentine first division and the remaining 10 will be determined in a tournament in July that will feature clubs from Argentina's National B division. The AFA's Exec Committee is expected to approve the new tournament at a meeting on Tuesday.  AFA VP Luis Segura said, "There is a decision to change the format of the championships. The idea is to have a long tournament and in this way create a hierarchy of AFA tournaments, with less expenses for the clubs and more televised games" (LOS ANDES, 4/24).
