Indian Premier League Franchises Put Trust In Foreign Coaches

This season’s Indian Premier League "promises a slew of changes," according to Kushal Phatarpekar of the HINDUSTAN TIMES. What will remain constant "is the franchises’ trust in foreign coaches." Former India cricket player Venkatesh Prasad "expressed disappointment with the trend, insisting that it needs a serious rethink." He said, "It’s disappointing in a way. Every franchise needs to look at the role of Indian coaches as part of the team management" (HINDUSTAN TIMES, 4/15). In New Dehli, M.V.L Manikantan reported seven of the eight franchisees "have foreign head coaches." Sanjay Bangar, at the helm of Kings XI Punjab, "is the odd man out." Indian coaches "are also rare in supporting roles." Franchise managements "don’t see any issue." A Rajasthan Royals team official, who did not wish to be identified, said, "Indian coaches have a long way to go compared to their foreign counterparts. They are learning, but are still inexperienced" (HINDUSTAN TIMES, 4/15).
