Spanish Football League Produces 10-Minute Video Warning Against Match-Fixing

The Spanish Football League (LFP) and the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) have collaborated with Spain's National Police to produce a 10-minute video that will be shown in all La Liga and Spanish second division locker rooms starting next week, according to Jordi Quixano of EL PAIS. LFP Integrity Department Dir Manuel Quintanar said of the video, "The player is most vulnerable when he has less training. It is to refresh them that they can be victims of criminal networks." There are "currently no punishments for players for playing at betting houses." Quintanar said, "Cheats go unpunished." This will change in the fall, when a reform will be approved to "increase sanctions for being involved in match-fixing." The LFP in February voted to make match-fixing sanctions more severe. The video says, "Match-fixing will land you in jail." The LFP "will depend on the support of all betting houses, with primary support coming from Betfair" (EL PAIS, 4/13).
