Argentine Club Independiente's Execs Looking To Hold Presidential Election In July

Argentine second division side Independiente's exec board led by club President Javier Cantero "reached an agreement with the opposition to hold club elections in July, with the exact date to be determined," according to LOS ANDES. The Independiente execs that form Independiente Místico (Treasurer Luis Felice, Secretaries Claudio Ciancio and Pedro Larralde) agreed with the Independent Group (AI) -- Hugo Moyano, Jose Klapenbach, Favio Fernandez, Hector Maldonado and Daniel Seoane. The "arrangement calls for elections to be held in July, adds three members to the football subcommittee and means AI will pay the players and coaches their salaries from January through May." AI "wants the elections held July 6 because July 13 is the final day of the World Cup." IM is "hoping to hold the votes on July 20 or 27." With both the Argentine first and second division starting on Aug. 2, "all groups involved want a new president to have time to assemble a competitive roster." It will "not be easy for the parties to solve all the other issues by July 6, so all signs point to an election being held later in July" (LOS ANDES, 4/8).
