Cologne Sporting Venues To Invest $3.4M In Rheinenergie Stadium Upgrades

Kölner Sportstätten GmbH, which is the operating company of the Rheinenergie Stadium, "is looking to invest" about €2.5M ($3.4M) in stadium upgrades, according to Thorsten Moeck of KÖLNISCHE RUNDSCHAU. The home of 2nd Bundesliga side FC Cologne "opened 10 years ago and is not up to date anymore." The two biggest issues "are the outdated scoreboard and the stadium's energy efficiency." In addition, the operating company "wants to create office space in the stadium's south stand and install a weather station on the roof, among other things." The upgrades "would be financed through loans for which the city would take out indemnity bonds" in the amount of €2.3M ($3.2M) (KÖLNISCHE RUNDSCHAU, 4/6).
