German Football League CEO Christian Seifert Criticizes UEFA's Nations League Plans

The planned introduction of the Nations League "is also surprising the German Football League (DFL)," according to the DPA. DFL CEO Christian Seifert said that "the competition format is not yet matured." Seifert: "You have to ask critically: Is UEFA the unified voice of football in Europe? I don't think that all leagues and clubs want this competition. And specifically, I don't think that all players and coaches are for it." UEFA decided to start the new competition in '18 during its congress in Kazakhstan. Seifert: "I haven't understood the format yet. And judging by the criticism from all over Europe, I believe the same is true for other people." Seifert added that he "has always been in favor of thinking things through" (DPA, 3/31).
