Argentine Second Division Side Independiente Says Debt To Employees To Be Cleared Tuesday
Argentine second division side Independiente Secretary General Claudio Ciancio said regarding the debt owed to the club's players, "We understand that the claim is legitimate, but we do not agree with the magnitude of the reprisal," according to OLE. Since Friday, the team's "employees have been on strike, protesting over not receiving a portion of their salaries from February." As of "last Thursday, they had only received 55% of payment from February, and they received an additional 23% a day later." The "million-dollar question is what will happen during a game scheduled for Wednesday against San Carlos." Ciancio said on Tuesday, "Right now we are expecting to pay the remaining 22% today, so we believe that the game will not be in danger" (OLE, 3/18).
