Olympic Notes: Berlin Considers Bidding For 2024 Summer Olympics

Berlin "is considering bidding" to host the 2024 Olympics. Mayor Klaus Wowereit said, "Berlin meets the requirements to host the Olympic games, all the sports facilities are already in place" (AFP, 3/13). ... Leaders of Krakow, Poland's campaign for the 2022 Winter Olympics "have submitted their bid documents to the IOC." Krakow is one of five contenders in the race, along with Almaty, Kazakhstan; Beijing; Lviv, Ukraine; and Oslo. Friday "is the deadline for submission of the bid books" (AP, 3/13). ... The Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics have called Lionel Messi "to promote the event." Messi "was named the ambassador for the third edition of the Youth Olympics on Tuesday." Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri said, “He is an idol the world over, an example for people to follow and the perfect professional” (NBC SPORTS, 3/12).
