Sky's Champions League Games Broadcasts Obtain High Ratings On Tuesday

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland "recorded top ratings for its Champions League games broadcast on Tuesday night," according to Christopher Schmitt of QUOTENMETER. A total of 1.11 million viewers tuned in to watch Sky's simulcast, which consisted of the Bayern Munich vs. FC Arsenal and Atletico Madrid vs. AC Milan games, or one of its individual game feeds. The number translated into a market share of 3.8%. The 1-1 draw between Bayern Munich and Arsenal attracted 610,000 viewers and obtained a 5.6% share in the target demographic. In addition, German sports channel Sport1 attracted 230,000 viewers to its football news show "Bundesliga Aktuell" on Tuesday evening. The show, which started at 6:30pm, had a market share of 0.9% including 1.1% in the target demographic (QUOTENMETER, 3/12).

CHELTENHAM RATINGS FALL: In London, Chris Cook reported U.K.'s Channel 4 Racing "experienced a disappointing start to the 2014 Cheltenham Festival," scoring an average audience of just 586,000 on day one, a drop of 28% on last year. The broadcaster "was determined to set the figure in context, noting that total TV viewership on the afternoon was 20% less than last year" (GUARDIAN, 3/12).
