Klagenfurt's Stadium Finally Completed Six Years After Austria Co-Hosted Euro 2008

The football stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria "has been completed six years after the country co-hosted Euro 2008 together with Switzerland," according to the KURIER. The stadium, which hosted games during Euro 2008, "has finally been completed." The Wörthersee Stadium, including the sports park, had a price tag of €92M ($127M). However, the utilization of the stadium "remains a sore point." Besides Wednesday's int'l friendly between Austria and Uruguay, the stadium's event calendar "includes only a few big events." The stadium's main tenant is third division football club SK Austria Klagenfurt, which "usually plays in front of a few hundred people." The city has to pay €800,000 ($1.1M) anually "to maintain the venue." The task now is "to fill the stadium with events" (KURIER, 3/3).
