A-League Sydney FC Player Alessandro Del Piero Is Willing To Coach

A-League Sydney FC player Alessandro Del Piero "has signalled his willingness to succeed Frank Farina next season if the Sydney FC coach leaves the club after another hugely disappointing season," according to Tom Smithies of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. The next year of Farina’s contract "will not be activated if Sydney finishes below fourth place, and it’s understood that Del Piero has made clear to his colleagues that he is prepared to take on the role as his first coaching position, if Farina falls short." There "would be substantial hurdles to overcome even if Sydney were to entertain the idea of Del Piero becoming head coach, not least the requirement for A-League coaches to hold a certain level of coaching qualification." But interim exceptions "have been made for coaches without the requisite badges but who make a commitment to achieve them, and it seems inconceivable that Football Federation Australia would block such an appointment" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 2/10).
