UCI's Brian Cookson Says Lance Armstrong Won't Get Special Invitation To Doping Inquiry

Lance Armstrong "has indicated he would like to co-operate" with the independent commission set up by the Int'l Cycling Union with a budget of A$3.7M ($3.3M) to probe cycling's doping past, according to Rupert Guinness of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Armstrong "is yet to confirm he will be involved," but has said he is waiting for UCI President Brian Cookson to call him -- a prospect Cookson "dismissed on Thursday in Adelaide where he is following the Tour Down Under." Cookson: "He won't get a phone call from me. I am deliberately not speaking to anyone about what [people] may or may not contribute to the commission." Cookson said that any hopes Armstrong "held for a reduction in his ban for co-operating with the inquiry would hinge on 'what's he's able to reveal.'" Cookson said, "But that's not going to be in my hands" (SMH, 1/23).
