Report Indicates World Cup Participants' Top Execs Will Not Stay In Brazil Throughout Event

Brazilian newspaper Estadao "has reported that presidents and execs from the football federations that will participate in the World Cup will not stay in Brazil for the length of the tournament," according to AS. This is "due to the social protests criticizing the money being spent on the stadiums that will host World Cup games." The participating countries' leaders will attend FIFA's Annual World Congress in Sao Paulo on June 11, the day before the World Cup kicks off, and "will leave the country after the meeting, returning only for the World Cup finals." It is "expected that FIFA President Sepp Blatter will stay in Brazil throughout the World Cup" (AS, 1/15).
