League Notes: MLB Takes Formal Step For Clubs To Sign S. Korean Pitcher

Major League Baseball "has requested a status check" on South Korean pitcher Yoon Suk-min, a "formal administrative step before a big league club can sign any professional player from Korea." The Korea Baseball Organization said that it "informed MLB that Yoon is eligible for free agency after being asked about the 28-year-old's status in the top domestic league" (YONHAP NEWS, 1/14). ... All nine clubs in the top South Korean baseball league "will begin their overseas training camps this week, starting their offseason preparation in earnest." The KBO clubs "will all leave the country on Wednesday and spend around 50 days in warmer regions before returning home in early March" (YONHAP NEWS, 1/14). ... The German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) has launched a new mobile app ahead of the start of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The new app will bundle all social-media posts of Germany's Olympic athletes, teams and federations in one stream. In addition, the app will have a so-called "Fancorner," where supporters can express their excitement. The app is available for iPhone and Android (DOSB).
