Brasileiro side Atlético Mineiro confirmed that RONALDINHO signed a new contract with the club despite rumors "of an exit" to Turkish side Beşiktaş (SKY SPORTS, 1/9). ... National Rugby League Newcastle Knights have sacked player RUSSELL PACKER after he was sentenced to two years' jail for a drunken assault. The club issued a statement on Monday saying that Packer "had been formally advised his contract had been terminated, effective immediately" (AAP, 1/13). ... Basketball Australia CEO KRISTINA KENEALLY "has taken personal leave until mid-year." Keneally "was rumoured to be preparing to resign" in December, but BA said that "she will remain in her position but was granted up to six months leave to deal with a personal matter" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 1/14). ...
