Belgian Businessman Roland Duchâtelet Takes Over Spanish Second Division Side Alcorcón

Belgian businessman Roland Duchâtelet on Friday became the majority shareholder of Spanish second division side Alcorcón. Duchâtelet now owns six teams, including League Championship club Charlton Athletic, which he took over on Jan. 3. He also owns two Belgian clubs -- Standard and Sint Truidense -- German side Carl Jeiss Zena and Hungarian club Ujpest FC. The "financial figures were not released," but it is believed that Duchâtelet paid around €4M ($5.5M). Alcorcon said in a statement, "This highlights the strength of the values of our club: effort, humility, courage and confidence. The arrival of a prestigious, economically solvent investor will allow the club to reach all the athletic goals that we desire" (MARCA, 1/10).
