Spanish Pay-TV Third Quarter Revenues Down 13.3% From Last Year

The Spanish pay-TV sector generated total revenues of €1.18B from July to September, down by 13.3% from the year before, according to TELECOM PAPER. The figures are based on "the quarterly report issued by Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC." However, the loss of 31,479 subscribers in the period, a 10.8% year-on-year fall, "was the lowest quarterly decrease since the number of pay-TV users began dropping at the start of 2012." The Spanish pay-TV customer base stood at 3.74 million at the end of September. The leading pay-TV platform, Prisa’s Digital+, "managed to increase its number of subscribers" by 9,000 during the third quarter, while Telefonica shed 19,000 Internet TV customers and Ono lost 22,000 cable TV subscribers (TELECOM PAPER, 12/20). BROADBAND TV NEWS reported its fixed broadband subscriber total rose by 5.8% to 11.8 million "over the same period." Of the leading companies providing electronic communications services, only one -- Jazztel --  saw its revenue grow 14.4% in Q3 (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 12/19).
