RFEF Offered Six-Year, $8.2M Contract For Marketing, Media Rights For Women's Football

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has received a €6M ($8.2M) offer for rights to Spanish women's football national competitions, including advertising and broadcast rights for the next six years, according to the EP. An unnamed "multi-national sports sponsorship company has made a bet and proposed the creation of a Supercopa that could mean an economic boost to women's football in Spain." The proposal includes €1M ($1.4M) per season for the '14-15, '15-16 and '16-17 seasons, with the company offering €1.2M ($1.6M) for the following three seasons spanning '17-20. One of the "company's objectives is to make women's football 'visible' on TV." Currently, Spain has offered one match every Saturday over the past six matchdays, with the matches being broadcast at 11:45pm on a pay-TV channel, without clubs receiving "any economic compensation whatsoever." The company is "proposing to televise all the matches." Also, Spanish women's clubs would earn €350,000 ($478,380) per season for the first three years and €550,000 ($751,740) for the final three years of the deal (EP, 12/18).
