Cruzeiro Football Club Leads Pluri Consulting's '13 List Of Most Valuable Brazilian Clubs

Brazilian sports business consulting firm Pluri Consultoria on Wednesday released a study of the market values of Brazilian football clubs based on the total market value of all the players on each team's roster, according to the EFE. The combined market value of Brazil's 25 most valuable clubs in '13 totaled €864M ($1.19B) -- a 19% decrease from the '12 total of €1.1B ($1.5B). Brazilian side Cruzeiro, "which was crowned as Brazi's Serie A champion in '13," improved from ninth on the list to first place. Santos, which was No. 1 on the list in '11 and '12, fell to 10th place after Neymar joined Barcelona. The market value of Cruzeiro's players totaled €64.1M ($87.6M) as of December, representing a 23% increase from the previous year. Cruzeiro was followed in second place by Corinthians -- €61.7M ($84.3M) -- which improved from fourth place in '12. Internacional, Sao Paulo and Atlético Mineiro were the next highest-ranked clubs. Internacional's value of €56.1M ($76.7M) reflected a 12% decrease from the previous year, while Sao Paulo's €55.8M ($76.3M) value dropped 53% from '12 and Atlético Mineiro's market value -- €54.6M ($74.6M) -- dropped 21% from '12 to '13 (EFE, 12/18).
