Putrajaya To Host Second Leg Of Formula E Next October

The Malaysian city of Putrajaya will host "one of the 10 races in the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship next year," according to Ashreena Pillai of THE STAR. The inaugural season "will begin in Beijing in September, with Putrajaya hosting the second leg on Oct 18." Formula E Holdings CEO Alejandro Agag said in an official announcement, "Putrajaya is unlike any other city because it’s a new city ... one that has been built for the future. So, it has a lot of the values that we are looking for in terms of innovation, technology and green-sustainability." Agag said that details of the team list and drivers "have yet to be finalised but he confirmed that the line-up would include drivers from Formula One, IndyCar, LeMans and endurance racing teams." Agag: "We are still working out whether it will be a day or night race ... but we would like to have at least one, if not two, Malaysian drivers in the race. I think it will be important for the fans here to have a local hero to cheer for" (THE STAR, 12/18).
