Atlético Madrid Has Piled Up Total Of $42.2M In Earnings From Champions League Success

Atlético Madrid will conclude the group phase of the ongoing Champions League tournament with €30.6M ($42.2M) in earnings, according to Juan Casáñez of AS. Atlético "initially received" €8.6M ($11.9M) when it qualified for the tournament. It has since "received an additional sum" of €14M ($19.3M) when the Champions League distributed money to participants on a "proportional basis determined by TV rights." The club also increased its earnings with its results. With four wins -- €1M ($1.38M) per victory -- and one tie €500,000 ($689,850) prior to Wednesday's match against FC Porto, Atlético added an additional total of €4.5M ($6.2M). Finally, the club received another €3.5M ($4.8M) for advancing to the Round of 16. It "has all added up to €30.6M so far" (AS, 12/11).
