French Firm Atos Extends Longstanding Olympics IT Contract Through 2024
French firm Atos has "signed up as IT services partner" for the Olympics through '24, "extending a relationship that began in 1989," according to Keith Weir of REUTERS. Atos said that it was awarded the contract by the IOC after what it called "a competitive bidding process." Atos is also one of 10 int'l companies that pay a total of around $1B for Olympic marketing rights over a four-year cycle covering the Winter and Summer Games. That separate agreement runs until the 2016 Rio Olympics. Other major global sponsors including Coca-Cola and McDonald's "have signed up until 2020." The IOC has said that it "plans to review the marketing programme before it does any deals going beyond 2020 when Tokyo hosts the Olympics" (REUTERS, 12/9).
