Marketplace Roundup: Arminia Bielefeld Signs Shirt Deal With Shampoo Brand Alpecin

Second Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld has signed a new main, shirt sponsorship deal with shampoo brand Alpecin. The brand, which is owned by family company Dr. Kurt Wolff, will make its debut on the club's jerseys during Monday night's game against FSV Frankfurt. The club finalized the deal with Alpecin two weeks after the surprising bankruptcy of its previous shirt sponsor getgoods.de. The new deal was brokered by sports marketing agency SPORTFIVE (Arminia Bielefeld). ... German automobile club ADAC "has extended its partnership with the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) through '15." The club's regional chapters "will continue to organize all DTM races on German soil in '14." The ADAC "has been a partner of the series since '02" (MOTORSPORT TOTAL, 11/29). ... During Valencia's La Liga match on Sunday against Osasuna, the club wore commemorative shirts in honor of the 10-year anniversary of Valencia's "double" in the '03-04 season, when the "club won the La Liga and UEFA Cup." The shirt the team wore Sunday was "very similar to the one Valencia wore in '03-04" (MARCA, 11/30). ... Recently retired cricket player Sachin Tendulkar "began a new role -- promoting toilets and hygiene." The Indian batsman "was appointed UNICEF's ambassador for South Asia, helping promote sanitation in a country where more than half of the 1.2 billion population defecate in the open" (GLOBAL TIMES, 11/28). ... The Singapore Athletic Association announced on Thursday a S$2M ($1.6M) sponsorship with Swiss premium sports apparel manufacturer X-Bionic. The one-year deal, which "contains an option to a one-year extension, sees X-Bionic sign on as title sponsor" for the all-women Venus Run on March 8 (STRAITS TIMES, 11/28). ... The West African Football Union "has resurrected its Nations Cup competition after sealing a sponsorship deal with SuperSport." The South African broadcaster has agreed to a three-year deal with WAFU worth $200,000 per year (SOCCEREX, 11/29). ... The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) "has continued its prolific year of commercial activity by signing a new partnership with EF Englishtown" (SOCCEREX, 11/29). ... League Championship club Derby County has secured a back-of-shirt sponsorhip deal with M&DH Insurance (SOCCEREX, 11/29). ... Adidas "has created a new app to track football players’ movements and performance during matches or training." The miCoach app "contains a device that players stick in the soles of their shoes to track movements and idleness" (WORLD FOOTBALL INSIDER, 11/29). ... Kyocera Document Solutions South Africa is associating with South African Rugby with a sponsorship of the Sharks Rugby team. The Kyocera logo will be the brand on the back of the new official jersey (Sharks Rugby). ... Rugby League club Castleford Tigers has extended its kit sponsorship agreement with GMB Union for an 11th consecutive season (Castleford Tigers). ... The South African FA "is expected to sign a deal with German sportswear company adidas to return as technical sponsors of all the national teams, including Bafana Bafana" (SOWETAN LIVE, 11/28).
