League Notes: NBA Player Gustavo Ayón Skeptical Mexico Could Support NBA Franchise

Mexican NBA Atlanta Hawks player Gustavo Ayón said that a NBA team in Mexico "would be nearly impossible." Ayón: "I have heard that some Mexican cities near the U.S. border wanted to start a team, but, I insist, I do not believe it. I do not believe that our country can currently maintain an economic status that would support an NBA team" (LA OPINION, 11/17). ... Japanese government sources said that there will be "a sports agency as an affiliate of the education ministry to centralize sports administration to prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games." The sources added that the head of the new agency "will not be a Cabinet minister and will be tapped from various circles including the private sector" (KYODO, 11/18). ... Dubai has won the "Silver Award" of the 7th Int'l Sports Event Management Awards for Sport City category "during a special ceremony in London." Dubai "came in second place after London," and was followed by Auckland (GULF NEWS, 11/17).
