Ex-Coach Demands Exclusion Of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund From Bundesliga

Former Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath "has an unconventional ideal and demands the exclusion of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund from the Bundesliga," according BILD. Magath: "Clubs that consistently play in the Champions League have huge advantages. Actually you would have to exclude them from national competitions -- a European League would be more honest." Magath fears that "because of the high revenues from the Champions League the same clubs would always compete for the title." Cautionary tales are Spain, England and Italy. In Spain, only Real Madrid and FC Barcelona "have won the league title during the past nine years with three and six titles, respectively." In Italy, you "can bet your money on Juventus or one of the two teams from Milan, AC Milan and Inter." In England, only Arsenal and Man City "were able to surprise, other than that the champion was always ManU or Chelsea over the last decade." Magath also thinks that Bayern "will secure its supremacy in the Bundesliga for years to come." Magath: "I see the Bundesliga as a competition in which the first place is firmly taken by Bayern Munich. Dortmund and Leverkusen compete for the second and third spots. Starting with the fourth spot, everything is possible" (BILD, 11/18).
