Facilities Notes: Sydney Cricket Ground Contract Worker Sacked For Smuggling In Flare

A contract worker on the Sydney Cricket Ground redevelopment "has been sacked for allegedly smuggling a flare into Allianz Stadium hours before the weekend's A-League derby." The man "was picked up during a review of CCTV footage by the SCG Trust security unit." He is alleged to have "accessed the south end of the stadium in the hours before the match, using his position as a third-party contractor to gain entrance and hide the flare" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/29). ... Qatar sports fans "have never had it so good." The city's Aspire Zone Foundation has "expanded its range of sports facilities available to the public with the opening of new football fields, basketball and volleyball courts." The facilities, which are free for the community to use, include 12 mini-football fields, "six basketball courts and one volleyball court, which have been installed in different parts of Aspire Zone by Aspire Logistics" (GULF TIMES, 10/24).
