Mexican National Team Appoints Miguel Herrera To Coach Club In Decisive Qualifiers

The Mexico Football Federation on Friday officially named MIGUEL "EL PIOJO" HERRERA to replace VICTOR MANUEL VUCETICH as "El Tri coach," according to ESPN. Herrera becomes "Mexico's fourth coach in three months and is tasked with the immediate challenge" of leading Mexico to "victory Nov. 13 and 19 at the 2014 World Cup qualifying international playoff vs. New Zealand" (ESPN, 10/18). LA AFICION reported Herrera, currently the coach of Liga MX side Club America, is "working to decide which players he will use in the qualifying games and a friendly against Finland." Herrera said, "We are already working on the list. It is obvious that we have to be thinking about this, that we are watching plays. We have considered all the [Liga MX] players, and not just because of this appointment, but also because we always watch our rivals" (LA AFICION, 10/19).
