Bundesliga Club Hertha Berlin Ordered To Pay $555K In Compensation To Ex-Employee

Bundesliga club Hertha BSC Berlin "has been ordered to pay former goaltender coach Christian Fiedler compensation" of €579,000 ($783,000), according to the DPA. The club said in a statement that "it will not seek additional legal action against the Berlin Labor Court's ruling." The compensation amount includes damages of €410,000 ($555,000) and a bonus payment for not being relegated of €25,000 ($34,000). In addition, the club "has to pay Fiedler's monthly salary of about €12,000 ($16,000) for 12 months retroactively starting July 1." Hertha "ended its collaboration with Fiedler at the the end of May at the request of head coach Jos Luhukay, despite Fiedler having an existing contract." The 38-year-old "took legal action against the termination of his contract and sued the club for rehire." In the meantime, Hertha "hired Richard Golz as Fiedler's replacement" (DPA, 10/10).
