DOSB Now Looking For New President After Thomas Bach Elected IOC Boss

The German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) "will need to find a new president" after Thomas Bach was elected IOC president, according to SPORTSCHAU. Bach, who was elected DOSB president through Dec. '14, "will resign from his position at the DOSB committee meeting on Sept. 17 at the latest." Hans-Peter Krämer, who is the board director of the German Cancer Aid and DOSB VP in charge of economics and finances, "will take over the organization's daily business." The DOSB's member meeting on Dec. 7 "will elect an interim president who will head the federation until its next scheduled elections in Dec. '14." The "top candidates to succeed Bach are DOSB General Dir Michael Vesper, German Swim Federation (DSV) President Christa Thiel and German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) President Rainer Brechtken."

OFF TO LAUSANNE:
Bach, on the other hand, "will together with his wife Claudia move to Lausanne, Switzerland, where the IOC headquarters are located." He "will resign from all his positions, except as board exec of wood processing machine manufacturer Weinig AG," which he said that the IOC ethics commission "allowed him to keep." As IOC president, Bach "will receive expenses and a daily rate -- the amount is unknown" (SPORTSCHAU, 9/10). The DOSB Committee congratulated Bach on his election and said in a statement, "The committee of the DOSB congratulates Thomas Bach on his election as ninth IOC president. With the election, the members of the IOC have honored his long-term work in sports, among others as IOC vice president, chairman of numerous commissions and DOSB president. His decisive win also strengthens German sports" (DOSB).
