Buenos Aires Embraces Influx For Saturday's IOC 2020 Olympic Host Decision

The five interlocking rings of the Olympic logo "are dominating the scene in Buenos Aires," according to Hernán Sartori of CLARIN. It is "because the Olympic movement this week moved to Buenos Aires, where the 125th session of the IOC will choose the site of the 2020 Olympics from finalists Madrid, Tokyo and Istanbul on Saturday." Next Tuesday, "the new IOC president will be chosen from six candidates." When Argentine Olympic Commitee (COA) President Gerardo Werthein and Buenos Aires Head of City Government Mauricio Macri heard IOC President Jacques Rogge say, "This is all fantastic and very well-organized, Argentina is a great sports nation," their smiles "could not be wiped from their faces." With the collaboration of the Argentine national government, the COA and Buenos Aires "are the hosts of this unprecedented, historic event." Buenos Aires will this week receive "from 6,000 to 8,000 visitors due to the Olympic Assembly." There "will be members from 15 royal families." The Olympics' economic partners "will not be pushed to the side, as the presidents of Samsung and Coca Cola, two of the event's top sponsors, will be present." To "bring to the world every step of the Assembly, around 2,000 journalists will set foot in Buenos Aires" (CLARIN, 9/3).
