German 3rd League Club President Calls For Structural Aid For East German Football Clubs

German 3rd League Hallescher FC President Michael Schädlich "has called for 'development assistance' for East German football clubs," according to the SID. He said, "In the economy it is accepted that competitive disadvantages, which are objectively given, are balanced through structural aids. It is about making East German football economically competitive, at least in the 2nd Bundesliga, through certain structural aids." The 59-year-old economic scientist proposed that "the required money could be provided through German Football Federation (DFB) loans and economic aids." He said, "We are now reaching the limits. The companies in the East simply don't have the some sponsorship potential than [their counterparts in the West]." Schädlich is talking about an additional budget of €10M ($13M) (SID, 8/27).
