Swiss Olympic Puts Lausanne Forward To Bid On 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games

The Swiss Olympic Exec Committee has officially put forward Lausanne as its potential candidate to host the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games. Lausanne beat Lucerne, which also bid to host the Games, with eight to four votes with one abstention. The final decision, if the Swiss Olympic Committee submits a bid to the IOC, will be made by representatives of Swiss' Olympic sports federations on Sept. 19 (Swiss Olympic). Lausanne Mayor Daniel Brélaz said, "It is a great day for Lausanne, and for the State of Vaud. Our city has invested a lot of resources over the last decades into nurturing the world of international sport which is based here. We hope that this platform will be one of the strengths of our international bid, and we look forward to collaborating with Swiss Olympic in the development of a very strong proposals to the IOC to hopefully win in 2015" (INSIDE THE GAMES, 8/22).
