Franchise Notes: Spanish Football Club Alcorcón Supported Despite Possible Relegation

Fans of Spanish second division side Alcorcón, "which does not know whether it will play next season in the Spanish second or third division, are responding more than ever." The team already has 2,000 season ticket holders for the upcoming season, "despite not knowing in which category it will play." It is "another show of support for the club, which has also been embraced on social media, including the creation of the Twitter hashtag #noaldescensodelalcorcon (no Alcorcón relegation)" (AS, 8/11). ... Pacific League baseball team Rakuten Eagles "plan to add about 2,000 more spectators seats to Kleenex Stadium this season." The expansion project "will increase the seating capacity from the current 23,451 to some 25,000 (KYODO, 8/11). ... The Australian Football League is "planning to announce charges" against Australian Football League side Essendon, "and potentially a number of individuals including senior coach James Hird, as early as 9am on Tuesday" (THE AGE, 8/12).
