ARD Scores High Ratings With DFB Pokal Highlights; Aquatic Worlds Top On Eurosport

German public broadcaster ARD "has recorded successful ratings for the summary of the DFB Pokal's first round in its Sportschau program," according to Manuel Nunez Sanchez of QUOTENMETER. Nine of the first round's 32 matches were played on Saturday afternoon, and the highlights of those nine games attracted 2.72 million viewers to the ARD's Sportschau, which started at 6pm local time. The number translated into a market share of 20.1%. In the target demographic 14-49, the show attracted 660,000 viewers and had a 14.8% share. German pay-TV channel Sky's live broadcast of the afternoon games attracted 450,000 viewers. The number equaled a 4.2% market share. In the target demographic, Sky's broadcast was watched by 210,000 viewers and obtained a 5.3% share (QUOTENMETER, 8/4).

POOL TIME: QUOTENMETER's David Grzeschik reported ARD "has received only low ratings for its broadcast of the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona." On Friday, the aquatic world championships attracted only 790,000 viewers, which translated into "a weak 5.5% market share." In the target demographic, the broadcast of the men's freestyle final was watched by 160,000 and had a 3.5% market share. Pan-European broadcaster Eurosport had a little more success with its broadcast of the event. A total of 180,000 viewers tuned in to watch Eurosport's live broadcast, which started at 6pm on Friday. The number translated into an above average share of 1.8%. In the target demographic, Eurosport attracted 70,000 viewers and obtained a 1.4% market share (QUOTENMETER, 8/3).

MOTORSPORTS: QUOTENMETER's Sanchez also reported German free-to-air TV channel kabel eins obtained unsatisfying ratings for its broadcast of the ADAC GT Maters on Saturday. The broadcast, which started at 12:10pm, attracted 180,000 viewers and had a 2.4% market share. In the target demographic, the event attracted 100,000 viewers, which equaled a 3.2% share. ARD's broadcast of the German Touring Car Championship's (DTM) qualifying session was also "not hit with viewers." An average of 640,000 viewers tuned in at 2:40pm. The number translated into a 6.4% market share. In the target demographic, ARD's coverage attracted 190,000 viewers and obtained a 5% share (QUOTENMETER, 8/4).
