Event Notes: Barcelona To Visit Tel Aviv, Jerusalem In 'Peace Tour' In Early August

Before Barcelona begins its preseason tour of Asia in August, the entire club, including Lionel Messi and Neymar, will visit Palestine and Israel for youth clinics where the players will promote a message of peace. Barcelona's "Peace Tour," which the club "is funding itself," will make stops in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem (EFE, 7/27). ... Goa, India FA VP Lavinio Rebello "has put his weight behind the proposed IMG-Reliance initiative of starting a new league and claimed that football will get a much needed helping hand in the state and country." Rebello: "If the IMG-Reliance tournament becomes a reality with Goa as one of the venues, it will boost the game and at the same time provide a break to the I-League players" (GOAL INDIA, 7/29). ... National Rugby League CEO Dave Smith "has revealed the NRL will listen to fans" and work toward dropping ticket prices for games. Smith also admitted "he would 'pressure' clubs to slash food and beverage prices inside grounds." Smith: "We should always have affordable pricing across the spectrum" (Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH, 7/30).
