Red Bull "reportedly wants to build a new high-tech arena at Munich's Olympic Park," according to Dominik Hutter of the SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG. The Austria-based company "plans to build a new hockey and basketball arena with a capacity of around 10,000." Red Bull "is willing to take on the complete costs and risks of the arena." However, it expects "a construction-ready site from the city." The new arena, which is supposed to include a practice court and three additional ice rinks, "could be built at the location of the current Event Arena, the former Olympic velodrome." In addition to German Hockey League (DEL) club EHC Munich, which has been part of the Red Bull empire since May, the arena "is expected to become the new home of Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) club Bayern Munich." The new arena "would mean a long-term commitment of Red Bull to Munich." Besides a construction-ready site, Red Bull "also demands parking spaces and an adequate traffic connection." Both the city council and the Olympic Park board "are open to the proposal." To make sure the planned arena will be utilized in a sufficient manner, Red Bull "plans to sign long-term leasing contracts with Bayern Munich, the German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB), clubs and amateur sports." The new arena "will reportedly have a price tag in the triple-digit millions" (SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG, 7/25).
REGENSBURG: In Regensburg, Lösch & Koller reported stadium developers BAM Sports GmbH "has been awarded with the contract to build the new football stadium in Regensburg by the city council." The new stadium will cost an estimated €27.5M ($36.5M). It will become the new home ground of current 3rd League football club SSV Jahn Regensburg (MITTELBAYERISCHE ZEITUNG, 7/25). The construction is scheduled to start in January and expected to be finished in time for the '15-16 season. The new stadium will have a capacity of 15,052 (SSV Jahn Regensburg).
