Current, Former Cronulla Sharks Directors Could Ask NRL For Loan

National Rugby League Cronulla Sharks officials have sought assurances from the Australian Rugby League Commission that an emergency loan "would be forthcoming if the fallout from Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority investigation decimates the club," according to Proszenko, Walter & Carayannis of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Members of the former and current Cronulla boards "have been involved in a series of discussions with ARLC powerbrokers since the club was named as one of six of interest to the anti-doping body." The other five clubs have "been cleared of systematic doping." Current and former directors have "asked the NRL for a loan on favourable terms should the worst-case scenario" take place. The ARLC, "which has already provided staffing and financial assistance since the scandal broke, has intimated it is likely to oblige" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 7/24).
